End of Summer

From a recent trip to Plumb Beach, Brooklyn.

Rockaway Beach, Queens, NYC

Queens-on-Sea

With an assignment to capture sand, blue skies and sea, I joined the many cyclists heading down to Rockaway this afternoon.

Coney Island’s 1st Annual Pet Day

Despite the drizzly conditions, a few brave dogs turned out for the first Coney Island pet parade this afternoon, with the lady above taking first place. Her assistant took care of the winner’s paperwork—a season pass to Deno’s Wonderwheel amusement park plus a whole lotta dog food.

Paerdegat Basin

Dead Horse Bay, Barren Island, New York

Just across the road from the Floyd Bennett Airfield on Barren Island is a short trail that leads down to Dead Horse Bay. Back when Barren Island was actually an island, it was home to many horse-rendering plants. Some 70 years later, bones still wash up on the beaches and can be seen among […]

On the Beach in Queens

Far Rockaway beach at Fort Tilden is quiet even on Labor Day weekend. Though it’s well worth riding down to the sea, we can’t recommend taking the quicker-looking but mildly traumatic route down Flatbush Avenue. Best to head out via the bike lane next to Ocean Parkway, then cut across East, using the path […]
