Despite the drizzly conditions, a few brave dogs turned out for the first Coney Island pet parade this afternoon, with the lady above taking first place. Her assistant took care of the winner’s paperwork—a season pass to Deno’s Wonderwheel amusement park plus a whole lotta dog food.
Last night the Lyceum was full to capacity for the first public performance of the Atlantic Yards inspired production. UPDATE: At the show I met Norman Oder from Atlantic Yards Report. who this morning wrote: “it’s well worth seeing”. The image above was taken at the rehearsal earlier in the day.

Last night we attended the first-ever Freaktoberfest down in Coney Island. We got introduced to some great drinks; the Albino Python from the Shmaltz Brewing Company (He’Brew) was our favourite.

Fall officially started at 11:44 this morning. Yesterday, as the sun set on the last full day of summer, the Coney Island Tattoo & Motorcycle Show came to life. It felt like a ritual celebration of the seasonal change.
It is a beautiful afternoon down at Coney Island for the last day of Astroland. I highly recommend a last minute visit if you have the chance — I am about to jump on the Q train to head back down there.
The Battery Dance Company brought the Downtown Dance Festival over to Governors Island today. There will be more free performances tomorrow, Sunday August 17th.
